I have been wanting to create a personal site where I can publish anything that I feel is relevant to me and visitors of this site, and yet informative enough for people to come back and want for more information. But how do I accomplish this after going through three major revisions?
I created a family website so my relatives and friends can browse for photos and events about my family - afterall the domain name is my family name. That ran for a couple of years. I got tired of the interface and revamped the whole site, and made it into a technology portal where I store all my net tools and applications - such as an open directory project, network tools to lookup people, domain search, spell checker, etc.I even have my address book, bookmarks, RSS feeds, games and live market data in it. But alas, it didn't work out the way I planned it and relatives were asking where ere all the pictures that were posted before.
Then I discovered this content management system (CMS) called Joomla with a gazillion templates that are available for free where I can add modules and components on the fly. I did not have to struggle through the whole process of designing the interface, searching for web apps, etc. They are all integrated into this puppy. I can change the look of the whole site with a click of a mouse and whoala - new scheme, new colors, new everything. I think this is the best thing that ever happened to web development and the neat part is that it is open license - meaning it is free.
